Some might remember the $180 million Australian tourism TV advert that was approved by the managing director of Tourism Australia, Scott Morrison, launched in 2006 and subsequently banned in the United Kingdom for inappropriate language. Its relevance today is nothing to do with tourism, but it’s a catchy phrase that captures what you might be thinking when you don’t receive your regular dose of Old Crocks Simpson Desert Charity Fundraiser news.
We’re now satellite communications-equipped, thanks to our sponsor, Viasat, and Greg’s careful attention and tuition in Sydney. More later on that. But it needs us amateurs to set it up, and we are not as slick as the mobile phone companies whose services are beaming this blog to your sitting room.
We’re in pretty remote country. Our campsite, on an attractive river bend 14 kilometers west of Canberra, is superbly equipped with hot showers and flushing loos, but it’s at the bottom of a valley and doesn’t have any phone reception. We’re about to hit the Victorian high country where we expect to be similarly isolated. So, if you don’t hear anything, please have patience; it’s not that we’ve got bored with telling you about our journey. It’s just where we are.

Where we are with our fundraising is just as surprising. As I sit in this Canberra Coles carpark (with phone reception!) we together have raised over $13,000 to brighten the future of young people and veterans in need. That’s amazing! It has pushed our target to $16,000! So please continue to reach out to your friends and colleagues and share the story to help these people even more.
Looking at your map, if you can spare the time, I highly recommend a visit to Werribee Open Range Zoo (between Melbourne and Geelong). Lots of great places in and around Geelong (my son lives down there, and we will be down ANZAC Day weekend – for James C, finally picking up the new van).
No doubt in your research you will have discovered that the entire Great Ocean Road is actually a War Memorial!
Safe travels team.
Is there a broad itinerary available for your followers to track you????
Thanks Darryl! Your comments are very good and much appreciated! Itinerary? No, not really after the next few days, on the basis that no plan survives contact with reality! But there is a map on the ‘What’s the plan?’ blog. Hope that gives you a clue.
