What we do…

For those in the field of disaster management, we all want to do what’s best for the communities we serve, for the people we know, and for those who rely on us.

But what’s best?? In this ever-changing world of personal busy-ness, of multiple priorities, of compounding events, in a changing climate, how do we keep up to date? …with best practice …with the latest thinking?

Governments strive to help us. After every disaster there’s another review, another report with recommendations designed to help communities recover, to increase resilience for the next time.

But these reports are long. And behind their recommendations – which are often aimed at government policy and organisation – are the stories…

In those stories there are lessons from people like you, about things that have worked and things that have not worked.

The lessons are valid. They have been judged worth including in an official publication of the day. At the gritty coal-face of disaster management, for people working to protect communities, those stories can make a difference.

The Disaster Lessons Factory does not make things up. It aims to bring to light the stories of experience from those long reports. It aims to assemble lessons from components that are already available, enable you to find them quickly and tell you about them in minutes, not hours.
