Today’s headache

Final servicing on Peter found this. Almost no brake fluid in one reservoir. A slight stain on the internal tyre wall gave a further clue. As the wheel came off, things looked dirtier and grimier – and this is the offending item cleaned up! A gremlin must have got into the wheel cylinder and gnawed at the brake pistons, brake fluid combined with brake pad dust clogging everything behind the scenes.

I’ve never done this before. You can’t really get the brake shoes off easily without taking the whole wheel station to bits. And you need to do that to get these pistons out. Axle shaft, driving flange, hub retaining nuts, special tool 1BG1349 – Aargh! What am I getting myself into?!

Thankfully we have YouTube, where there’s a northern Brit who has obviously been born in a Land Rover and who clearly and simply takes you through the solution. All I need now is the bits! Being rushed to us in Queensland from KLR in Sydney.

Of course, all this is worthwhile because we’re doing this for charity. Combat Stress – the UK veterans’ mental health charity – supports veterans from 15 different conflicts whose ages range from 22 to 87. A lifelong need for some. So please help us by sharing the links and highlighting to your friends our GoFundMe site. Let’s see if we can make a difference.
