There has been confusion, particularly in the UK, over making donations through the GoFundMe website. The website offers fixed amounts in Australian dollars or a ‘choose your amount’ box. All the amounts shown are in Australian dollars. But if you are donating from the UK, you may get a message with a pounds sterling sign in front of the amount.
Rest assured, once you have chosen the amount, it isn’t pounds sterling that is deducted; it is that number of Australian dollars. The current exchange rate is about two Australian dollars to the UK pound.
I have tried to raise this with GoFundMe in California. But there has been no response or easy method to press this point.
I hope this allows you to donate with confidence. Perhaps try a very small amount to start with to prove the point.
